Hi, I’m Jacob, a grateful, recovering sex addict. I’ve been sober for several months.

Today, I’m celebrating a recovery milestone.

You see, my sobriety date was on the first day of a particular month. That means every time the calendar page turns, I celebrate another month of recovery.

And it’s fitting that when the calendar page flipped this month, I realized I needed to buy a new calendar for 2022. No, actually it’s fitting that this first day of the month is the first day of a brand new year. The first day of the first month of the first year of the rest of my life.

I want to live 2022 as a sober, grateful, recovering sex addict. One who builds real relationships with real people. One who knows what real intimacy is and practices it with those I love.

By the way, intimacy has nothing to do with sex. Intimacy speaks to real, honest relationships. And in a real, honest relationship with my wife, Amy (not her real name), it may lead to sexual intimacy. But I’m working on real intimacy right now, with or without sex.
